Chandigarh: Punjab Government has distributed ₹1,149 crore to nearly 33 lakh women under the Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyaan Satkaar Yojana through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The monthly financial assistance scheme aims to provide social security, financial support, and greater economic independence to women across Punjab.

The government said that the scheme has become one of the state’s largest women-focused social security initiatives, with more than 70 lakh women registering for its benefits.

Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyaan Satkaar Yojana Provides Monthly Financial Support

The Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyaan Satkaar Yojana provides monthly financial assistance directly into the bank accounts of eligible women.

Under the scheme:

  • Scheduled Caste (SC) category women receive ₹1,500 per month
  • Women from other categories receive ₹1,000 per month

According to the Punjab Government, SC beneficiaries have received ₹4,500 through three monthly instalments, while women from other categories have received ₹3,000 through three instalments directly into their bank accounts.

The government stated that the direct payment system ensures that financial assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries without unnecessary delays.

DBT System Reduces Delays and Removes Middlemen

The implementation of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism has improved transparency and efficiency in the delivery of financial benefits.

Many beneficiaries said that direct transfers have reduced delays and eliminated the involvement of middlemen. The system allows money to reach the intended recipients directly through their bank accounts.

Women beneficiaries also highlighted that the scheme has given them better control over household finances and helped them manage daily expenses more effectively.

Beneficiaries Share How Direct Transfers Helped Them

Sarbjit Kaur from Gurdaspur said that receiving financial assistance directly into her bank account has helped her meet household needs. She explained that keeping the money in her account allows her to withdraw it whenever required.

She added that cash payments may not always be used for their intended purpose, while direct transfers provide better control and security over the funds.

Gagandeep Kaur from Harchowal said that the financial assistance reached her bank account within five to six days after submitting the application. She described the process as quick, transparent, and hassle-free.

She also said that the DBT system has removed the need to stand in queues for collecting cash payments.

Financial Assistance Supports Household and Educational Expenses

Other beneficiaries also shared the positive impact of the scheme.

Suman Kumari from Sri Hargobindpur said that the financial support has helped her family manage household expenses as well as educational costs.

Harpal Kaur from Ahmedgarh said that direct transfers have empowered women by allowing them to decide how and when they want to use the financial assistance according to their needs.

Punjab Government Highlights Women’s Financial Empowerment

Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Baljit Kaur said that the scheme was introduced to provide women with financial security, dignity, and timely assistance.

She stated that the government is committed to ensuring that every eligible beneficiary receives support through a transparent and efficient system.

According to the government, direct transfer of funds has strengthened women’s financial independence by giving them direct access to financial resources.

Axis Bank Supports DBT Implementation in Punjab

The Punjab Government has implemented the DBT system with support from Axis Bank, which is serving as the nodal banking partner for the scheme.

Reynold D’Souza, Group Head – Branch Banking, North Region and TASC Business at Axis Bank, said that the bank is committed to ensuring timely and transparent transfer of benefits to women across Punjab.

The partnership aims to make the payment process smoother and ensure that beneficiaries receive assistance without delays.

Scheme Strengthens Women’s Financial Independence Across Punjab

The Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyaan Satkaar Yojana has emerged as an important initiative for improving women’s financial security in Punjab.

By transferring funds directly into bank accounts, the DBT system has improved transparency, reduced dependency on intermediaries, and provided women with greater control over their finances.

The Punjab Government said that the scheme will continue to focus on ensuring timely and effective delivery of welfare benefits to all eligible women across the state.
