Chandigarh: The Punjab government is strengthening women empowerment and social security through its welfare schemes, said Baljit Kaur. She stated that financial assistance is helping thousands of women live with dignity and financial independence.
Monthly Financial Support for Over 6.83 Lakh Women
The minister informed that 6,83,004 widowed and destitute women in Punjab are receiving monthly financial assistance under the state’s social security pension scheme.
This initiative ensures that women can meet their daily needs and live with confidence and self-respect.

₹102 Crore Released for March 2026–27 Installment
Dr. Baljit Kaur announced that the Punjab government has released over ₹102 crore for the March 2026–27 installment to ensure timely financial support for beneficiaries.
She also highlighted that the state has allocated more than ₹1,200 crore in the budget to maintain uninterrupted pension benefits for eligible women throughout the financial year.
Eligibility Criteria for Beneficiaries
The scheme is designed to support vulnerable sections of society. Eligible beneficiaries include:
- Widowed and destitute women below 58 years of age
- Unmarried women above 30 years of age
- Women with annual income of ₹60,000 or less
The government ensures that only eligible women receive the benefit in a timely manner.
