Basti/ Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court has taken serious note of incorrect facts submitted by the Yash Veer Singh, Basti Superintendent of Police in a murder case, directing the officer to remain present in court till its rising. This strong observation highlights the court’s strict stance on accountability in judicial proceedings. The case has raised concerns about procedural lapses and the responsibility of senior police officials while filing affidavits.
Court’s Strong Observation on Basti SP False Affidavit Case
The recently reprimanded the Yash Veer Singh for filing an affidavit containing incorrect facts in a murder case.
The bench of noted that the affidavit appeared to shift responsibility onto another official rather than presenting accurate facts.The court found this approach unacceptable and emphasized that affidavits must reflect truth, especially in serious criminal matters.
Direction: Remain in Court Till Rising
As a consequence, the court directed the SP to remain present in the courtroom till the court rises for the day.This direction is often seen as a symbolic but strict judicial action, indicating displeasure while still taking a relatively lenient approach.
The court also warned the officer to be more careful in the future while filing affidavits before any court of law.
Background of the Basti SP False Affidavit Case
The issue arose in a murder case where the accused, identified as Manjeet Kumar, had filed a bail application. During the proceedings, the court sought instructions from the prosecution. However, despite repeated reminders, proper instructions were not provided to the Additional Government Advocate (AGA).
This delay prompted the court to ask the SP to file a personal affidavit explaining the lapse.
Basti SP False Affidavit Case: What the SP Stated in His Affidavit
In his affidavit dated March 28, 2026, the SP stated that the delay was due to the Joint Director (Prosecution). He claimed that instructions were requested on February 14 but were delayed until March 17. However, this explanation did not satisfy the court.
Court Finds Attempt to Shift Blame
Upon reviewing the submissions, the court observed that the affidavit appeared to protect a subordinate officer by shifting responsibility.
The court concluded that the facts mentioned were incorrect and misleading, raising concerns about the internal functioning of the police and prosecution system.
Basti SP False Affidavit Case: Proceedings Against Other Officials
The court also summoned the Joint Director of Prosecution. During the hearing, the official stated that it is the Investigating Officer’s duty to prepare instructions and that the required documents were received late.
Despite these explanations, the court found inconsistencies and directed both officials to appear personally.
Relief to the Accused
While addressing the procedural lapses, the court also granted bail to the accused in the murder case.
The decision reflects the principle that delays and administrative failures should not unjustly affect an accused person’s rights.

Yesh Veer Singh is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 2013 batch (Uttar Pradesh cadre), currently serving as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Basti district, Uttar Pradesh.

He was born on 1 July 1982 (as per official police records) and hails from Uttarakhand.
He completed his graduation in Veterinary Science (B.V.Sc.) and initially worked as a veterinary doctor before entering civil services.
