Punjab Govt Releases ₹3,806 Crore Under Old Age Pension Scheme in FY 2025–26, Says Dr. Baljit Kaur

Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has released over ₹3,806 crore under the Old Age Pension Scheme during the financial year 2025–26 (up to January 2026), benefiting more than 23.62 lakh senior citizens across the state, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced on Wednesday.

₹1,500 Monthly Pension for Over 23 Lakh Senior Citizens

Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that every eligible elderly beneficiary in Punjab is receiving a monthly pension of ₹1,500, ensuring financial security, dignity, and independence in their later years.

“More than 23.62 lakh eligible senior citizens are receiving regular financial assistance under the scheme,” the Minister said, adding that the government views elderly citizens as the “living heritage and pride” of Punjab.

₹4,100 Crore Budget Provision to Ensure Timely Payments

To guarantee seamless and transparent pension disbursement, the state government has made a budgetary provision of ₹4,100 crore for the Old Age Pension Scheme.

The Minister emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that no eligible senior citizen faces inconvenience in receiving their financial assistance.

Strict Directions for Transparent and Timely Disbursement

Issuing firm instructions to departmental officials, Dr. Baljit Kaur directed that pension payments must reach beneficiaries on time and without any hindrance.

She warned that any delay, negligence, or lapse in pension distribution will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against responsible officials as per rules.

Vision of ‘Rangla Punjab’ with Dignity for Elders

Highlighting the broader vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government, the Minister said the initiative reflects the commitment to the slogan “Our Elders, Our Pride.”

“Senior citizens are the custodians of Punjab’s social heritage, wisdom, and values. Their safety, dignity, and happiness are essential to realizing the dream of a ‘Rangla Punjab,’” she said.

The Punjab Government reiterated its resolve to ensure that elderly citizens live their later years with security, dignity, and strong institutional support, contributing to a prosperous and vibrant state.
