New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the payment of a 78-day Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) worth ₹2,009.61 crore to 11,40,770 railway employees.
The annual bonus recognises the performance of railway staff and is intended to motivate employees to improve operational efficiency and the overall performance of Indian Railways. As in previous years, the payment is being made ahead of the Durga Puja and Dussehra festive holidays.
The bonus will benefit eligible non-gazetted railway employees across various categories of staff.
Maximum Bonus of ₹17,951 Per Employee
The maximum amount payable to an eligible railway employee is ₹17,951 for 78 days. The bonus will cover several categories of railway personnel, including Track Maintainers, Loco Pilots, Train Managers (Guards), Station Masters, Supervisors, Technicians, Technician Helpers, Pointsmen, ministerial staff and other Group C employees.
The Productivity Linked Bonus serves as an annual incentive linked to railway employees’ collective contribution to the organisation’s performance.
Railways Records Strong Performance in 2025-26
The government’s decision comes after Indian Railways recorded strong operational performance during 2025-26.
Railways loaded a record 1,670 million tonnes of freight and carried nearly 7.41 billion passengers during the year. These figures highlight the scale of railway operations and the role of employees in freight movement and passenger transportation.
The approved bonus recognises the contribution of railway personnel to these achievements while providing financial support ahead of the festive season.
