New Delhi/Kolkata: West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) and REC Limited jointly organised a National and State Vendor Meet under the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG:MBY) in Kolkata to strengthen implementation of the scheme and accelerate rooftop solar installations across West Bengal.
The meeting was held on August 13 at Hotel Taj Bengal, Kolkata, and brought together officials from REC, CESC, the West Bengal Government, state and national solar vendors and training partners.
The event was chaired by Santanu Basu, Principal Secretary, Power Department, Government of West Bengal.
Focus on Faster Rooftop Solar Installation
Addressing the participants, Santanu Basu emphasised the importance of active participation and coordinated efforts by state and national vendors to strengthen the implementation of PMSG:MBY in West Bengal.
He highlighted the collective responsibility of various stakeholders, including the state government, REC, WBSEDCL, vendors, DISCOMs, financial institutions and other partners, in accelerating rooftop solar adoption across the state.
The meeting provided stakeholders with an opportunity to discuss implementation challenges and identify practical measures to improve the pace of rooftop solar installations.
REC Calls for More Vendors and Manpower
REC Limited, the nodal agency for implementation of PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, outlined measures aimed at increasing the pace of rooftop solar installations in West Bengal.REC Executive Director S. Jayanthi urged national vendors to deploy adequate manpower to support faster execution of rooftop solar projects.
She also called upon brand owners to expand their channel partner networks across West Bengal, which can help increase installation capacity and improve the availability of vendors for consumers.
REC assured vendors, consumers and DISCOMs of necessary support in resolving implementation-related issues and expediting rooftop solar installations.
Quality, Vendor Rating and Training Discussed
During the vendor meet, REC officials Devinder, DGM, and Raman Garg, DGM, made presentations covering key aspects of scheme implementation.
The presentations focused on:
- Increasing vendor participation under PMSG:MBY
- Ensuring quality of rooftop solar plants
- Vendor rating and performance
- Training and capacity building of vendors
- Improving the overall pace of rooftop solar installations
The discussions were aimed at strengthening the vendor ecosystem and ensuring that consumers receive reliable and quality rooftop solar systems under the scheme.
Stakeholders Discuss Implementation Challenges
The vendor meet provided a common platform for state and national vendors, government authorities, DISCOMs and other stakeholders to discuss challenges affecting the implementation of PM-Surya Ghar in West Bengal. The participants also discussed ways to improve coordination among stakeholders and address operational issues that could delay rooftop solar installations.
