New Delhi: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) to collaborate on the development, upgradation, renovation and construction of railway infrastructure and connectivity for DVC’s power plants and captive coal mining areas.

According to RVNL’s regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Thursday, the agreement aims to strengthen rail connectivity and associated infrastructure required for DVC’s power generation facilities and coal mining operations.

The collaboration will focus on improving railway infrastructure to facilitate the movement of coal and support the operational requirements of DVC’s power plants and captive coal mines.

Key Details of the RVNL-DVC MoU

The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation between RVNL and DVC for the development and improvement of railway infrastructure serving DVC’s power generation and coal mining activities.

The key areas covered under the agreement include:

  • Railway infrastructure development: Development, upgradation, renovation and construction of railway infrastructure.
  • Rail connectivity: Improving railway connectivity to DVC’s power plants and captive coal mining areas.
  • Rapid Loading Systems (RLS): Infrastructure to support the efficient loading of coal onto railway wagons.
  • Coal Handling Plants (CHP): Development and improvement of facilities for handling coal.
  • Silos: Associated infrastructure to support coal storage and loading operations.
  • Retractable Overhead Electrification (OHE) systems: Infrastructure to support railway operations and related coal-loading facilities.

These components are intended to support the movement of coal and improve the infrastructure required for DVC’s power generation and mining operations.

The development and modernisation of rail infrastructure can help improve the movement of coal from captive mining areas to power generation facilities.

Through this MoU, RVNL and DVC will collaborate on infrastructure projects covering railway connectivity, coal handling facilities and associated systems. The agreement provides a framework for cooperation in upgrading existing infrastructure and developing facilities required for operational needs.

The inclusion of Rapid Loading Systems, Coal Handling Plants, silos and retractable OHE systems also broadens the scope of the collaboration beyond railway tracks and connectivity.
