Madhya Pradesh: CM Yadav Meets Sagar Liquor Victims, Orders Strict Crackdown

Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav visited Sagar after the spurious liquor incident, met patients and directed officials to take strict action against those responsible.
Indian Masterminds Stories

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav reached Sagar directly from New Delhi on September 9 following the spurious liquor incident. He visited the district hospital, met affected patients and reviewed their treatment with doctors.

The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure proper medical care and all necessary facilities for those undergoing treatment. He later held a meeting with administrative officials and public representatives and gave the administration a free hand to take strict action against those responsible.

CM Yadav Warns of Strict Punishment

Speaking to the media, Dr. Yadav said the government would take strong action against those involved in the incident.

He said the state has strengthened its legal provisions for dealing with such cases, including provisions under Sections 49-A and 304, which can provide for severe punishment, including life imprisonment and the death penalty, depending on the offence.

The Chief Minister said the government would ensure that those responsible face strict consequences and that such incidents do not encourage others to engage in similar activities.

Officials Get Free Hand for Action

Dr. Yadav said officials have been given a free hand to take the strictest possible action wherever required.

He also directed the administration to examine other related issues, including illegal encroachments, and take appropriate action.

The Chief Minister further asked officials to coordinate with authorities in neighbouring states, particularly in areas along Madhya Pradesh’s borders, to prevent illegal activities from spreading across state boundaries.

Focus on Patients and Medical Care

Before the administrative meeting, Dr. Yadav met people undergoing treatment at the Sagar district hospital.

He interacted with the patients and sought information from doctors about their health. He instructed the medical team to provide appropriate treatment and ensure that patients receive the required healthcare facilities.

The hospital visit came as the administration continued to respond to the impact of the spurious liquor incident.

CM Appeals for Collective Action

Dr. Yadav also appealed to political leaders to approach the issue collectively rather than politicising the tragedy.

He said the government is working with religious and social organisations to promote campaigns against alcohol consumption. Describing the loss of lives as deeply painful, he noted that the death of family members, including a father and son, causes immense suffering.

The Chief Minister appealed to Congress leaders and the Leader of Opposition to join efforts to tackle the challenge.

Government Signals Wider Crackdown

The Chief Minister’s visit and directions indicate a wider administrative focus on preventing illegal liquor-related activities and taking action wherever violations are found.

By linking enforcement with coordination across state borders and action against related illegal activities, the government aims to strengthen its response to such incidents.

The emphasis on strict enforcement, timely medical care and community participation also highlights the need for a coordinated approach to public safety following the Sagar spurious liquor case.
