Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is set to expand its public transport network with a focus on rural connectivity, electric mobility, passenger safety, investment and employment under the Passenger Transport Vision Summit 2026.
The state plans to connect 75% of gram panchayats with bus services and operate more than 15,000 modern public buses, providing daily transport facilities to over 30 lakh passengers.
Electric Buses to Expand
The state currently has 96 PM e-buses and 120 intercity buses in operation. Another 486 PM e-buses and 34 intercity buses are planned over the next six months, with the total targeted to reach 1,100 buses by 2027.
Modern charging depots and solar infrastructure are also being developed, with the initiative expected to reduce more than 70,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Safety and Smart Monitoring
Under the Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva, buses will use the Intelligent Transport Management System for real-time monitoring. Buses will have seven CCTV cameras, panic buttons and vehicle tracking systems, with special attention to women and child safety.
The government also plans to modernise more than 180 bus stands, terminals and depots.
Investment and Jobs
The state will promote private participation through the PPP model, creating opportunities in bus operations, vehicle manufacturing, electric mobility, charging infrastructure and technical services.
The summit will bring together transport experts, private operators, industry representatives and policymakers to shape a roadmap for a modern and sustainable passenger transport system in Madhya Pradesh.
