Hyderabad: In a significant development for India’s defence public sector ecosystem, the Government of India has approved the appointment of Shailesh Vagerwal as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).
The approval was conveyed by the Ministry of Defence through the Department of Defence Production via an Office Memorandum dated June 18, 2026. The company informed stock exchanges about the decision in a regulatory filing.
Appointment Effective After Assumption of Charge
BDL clarified that the appointment will come into effect only after Shailesh Vagerwal formally assumes charge as CMD of the company.
The company received official intimation on June 19, 2026, while Vagerwal is yet to take charge of the position.
Tenure Extended Till 2031
As per the government order, Shailesh Vagerwal’s tenure as CMD will continue until:
- His superannuation on March 31, 2031, or
- Until further orders from the government, whichever is earlier
