Raipur: A delegation of Maharashtra legislators visited Chhattisgarh and met Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai to study the state’s paddy procurement system, agricultural development model, and rural economic initiatives. The visit focused on understanding the best practices implemented by the Chhattisgarh government in strengthening farmers’ welfare and agricultural reforms.
The delegation reviewed key policies related to procurement, farmer support systems, and administrative efficiency in the agriculture sector.
Chhattisgarh’s Paddy Procurement System Impresses Maharashtra Delegation
Members of the Maharashtra delegation said that farmers in four adjoining districts of Maharashtra also cultivate paddy in large quantities, and Chhattisgarh’s system serves as a highly effective and replicable model.
They appreciated:

- Simplified procurement procedures

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai welcomed the delegation and said that exchange of successful governance models between states plays a crucial role in strengthening India’s agriculture sector.
He noted that such study visits allow states to learn from each other’s experiences and adapt best practices according to local conditions.
₹3100 Per Quintal Paddy Procurement and Record Purchase Volume
The Chief Minister informed the delegation that Chhattisgarh is procuring paddy from farmers at ₹3100 per quintal, ensuring better income support.
He also highlighted that the state has achieved a procurement of approximately 141 lakh metric tonnes of paddy this year, making it one of the largest procurement operations in the country.
Focus on Farmer Welfare and Rural Economy Strengthening
CM Sai reiterated that the state government is continuously working to:
- Increase farmers’ income
- Strengthen rural economy
- Ensure hassle-free procurement process
- Expand welfare schemes for farmers
He also briefed the delegation about the Krishak Unnati Yojana and other initiatives aimed at agricultural development.
