State-owned THDC India Ltd (THDCIL) is set to commence operations of the first 250-MW unit of its 1,000-MW Tehri Pumped Storage Power Plant (PSP) in Uttarakhand within a week. The unit was recently synchronized with the national grid under the supervision of Chairman and Managing Director RK Vishnoi.
The Tehri PSP comprises four units, each with a capacity of 250 MW. While the first unit is ready for power generation, the second unit is expected to begin operations by January 2025, with the entire project slated for completion by 2025. The project has already seen an investment of approximately Rs. 7,800 crore.
Currently, THDCIL boasts a total installed capacity of 1,587 MW, including 1,424 MW from hydropower, 113 MW from wind energy, and 50 MW from solar power. The company is also developing a 1,320-MW Super Thermal Power Project in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, further diversifying its energy portfolio.
This milestone underscores THDCIL’s commitment to renewable energy and positions the Tehri project as a significant step toward enhancing India’s clean energy capabilities. The new facility is poised to strengthen the country’s power infrastructure and sustainability efforts.
