UP Clears ₹286 Crore Agriculture Package to Modernise Farms, Boost Storage and Allied Sectors

Uttar Pradesh has approved ₹286.46 crore for farm modernisation, seed storage, laboratories, horticulture, fisheries and agricultural research projects under SADP 2026-27.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has approved ₹286.46 crore for projects under the State Agriculture Development Plan (SADP) for 2026-27, with allocations covering farm modernisation, agricultural laboratories, seed storage, horticulture, fisheries and research infrastructure.

The decision was taken at the third meeting of the State Level Sanctioning Committee, chaired by Chief Secretary SP Goyal, a 1989-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. Of the total approved amount, ₹101.13 crore has been earmarked for completing ongoing projects on priority, while ₹185.33 crore will go towards new projects proposed by agriculture and allied departments and institutions.

Goyal directed the concerned departments and institutions to complete the approved works within the stipulated timelines while maintaining quality, financial discipline and effective monitoring. He also stressed that the projects should deliver maximum benefit to farmers.

Major Allocations Under SADP

  • ₹60 crore: Two-year programme to modernise government agricultural farms with improved farm machinery, irrigation tubewells and drainage facilities.
  • ₹2.78 crore: Expansion of production capacity at nine Integrated Pest Management (IPM) laboratories.
  • ₹3.71 crore: Construction of an IPM laboratory and soil-testing laboratory building in Deoria.
  • ₹2.60 crore: Construction of a soil-testing laboratory building in Lakhimpur Kheri.
  • ₹8.80 crore: Training of agriculture extension personnel, farmer-scientist interactions and Krishi Teerth programmes through agricultural universities and Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
  • ₹6.10 crore: Agricultural mechanisation, combine harvester training and other infrastructure work at the State Institute of Agricultural Management, Rahman Khera.
  • ₹5.98 crore: Horticulture development projects.
  • ₹1.82 crore: Tissue culture laboratory in Gorakhpur for producing breeder seed of new sugarcane varieties.

Seed and Storage Infrastructure

The Fisheries Department has received approval for ₹7.91 crore for training programmes, reconstruction of the Gorakhnath hatchery and strengthening fish-seed production capacity at government fish farms.

The Uttar Pradesh Seed Development Corporation will use ₹17.28 crore to construct seed-storage warehouses in Bulandshahr, Mainpuri and Jalaun, with a combined capacity of 5,300 metric tonnes.

Another ₹54.55 crore has been approved for warehouses at 14 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and storage facilities with an overall capacity of around 25,000 metric tonnes.

Funding for Agricultural Universities

The committee also approved ₹13.80 crore for research, infrastructure and creation of assets at agricultural universities in Banda, Ayodhya and Meerut, as well as the veterinary university in Mathura.

According to Principal Secretary Agriculture Ravindra, the approved outlay under the State Agriculture Development Plan for 2026-27 is ₹500 crore, while ₹200 crore has been provided under the budget.

The Chief Secretary further directed departments and institutions to thoroughly scrutinise project proposals before submitting them for approval, with the aim of avoiding unnecessary modifications later and ensuring timely execution.
