Indian Masterminds Stories

New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has issued an official clarification following media reports claiming that two candidates with the same name — Akanksha Singh — had secured Rank 301 in the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025. The Commission stated that, according to its official records, only one candidate named Akanksha Singh secured Rank 301 in the final result declared on March 6, 2026.

UPSC Statement on Rank 301

In a formal statement, UPSC clarified that the candidate who secured Rank 301 in the Civil Services Examination (Mains) 2025 is:

Name: Ms. Akanksha Singh
Rank: 301
Roll Number: 0856794
Father’s Name: Ranjit Singh

The Commission said these details match the official records maintained by UPSC and confirm the identity of the candidate who secured the rank.

UPSC Shares Details to End Confusion

The Commission said the clarification was issued after several media reports and social media posts suggested that two candidates with the same name were claiming the same rank.

Officials said that such confusion often arises due to the large public interest surrounding the Civil Services Examination results, which are closely tracked by aspirants across the country.

The statement was released to ensure transparency and prevent misinformation regarding the examination results.

Discrepancy in Admit Card Sparks Confusion

The controversy reportedly emerged due to a discrepancy in the admit card of another candidate named Akanksha Singh from Ara in Bihar.

According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, both candidates appeared to have similar roll numbers on their admit cards.

• The Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh had Roll Number 0856794 on her interview call letter.

• Scanning the QR code on her admit card also confirmed the same roll number.

However, the Akanksha Singh from Ara, Bihar, provided her preliminary examination admit card, which also displayed the roll number 0856794. But when the QR code was scanned, it reportedly revealed the roll number 085659, indicating a discrepancy.

Background of Akanksha Singh from Bihar

The Akanksha Singh from Bihar belongs to Khopira village in the Agiaon block of Bhojpur district, though her family currently lives in the Katira area of Ara city.

She completed her early education at Catholic Mission School in Ara.

• Matriculation (2017): 80% marks

• Intermediate (Science, 2019): 81% marks

• Graduation (English, 2022): Secured first position with 64% marks

In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, she said her life had been simple and that she had worked hard to achieve success despite limited resources.

“My life has been very simple. I have achieved this position through hard work and dedication, living with limited resources,” she said.

Her father, Kumar Indu Bhushan Singh, is a farmer, while her mother, Rinku Devi, is a homemaker.

UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025 Results

The Civil Services Examination 2025 final results were declared on March 6, 2026.

• Anuj Agnihotri from Rawatbhata in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, secured All India Rank 1.

• 958 candidates have been recommended for appointment to various services.

The UPSC conducts the Civil Services Examination every year to recruit officers for prestigious services such as:

• Indian Administrative Service (IAS)

• Indian Police Service (IPS)

• Indian Foreign Service (IFS)

The examination is widely regarded as one of the toughest competitive exams in India, with lakhs of candidates appearing every year.

Confusion Now Cleared

With the official clarification issued, the UPSC has confirmed that Rank 301 in the Civil Services Examination 2025 belongs to only one candidate — Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.

The statement effectively ends the confusion that had circulated online and in media reports following the declaration of the results.
