Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has released ₹403 crore for the development of 4,030 statue sites across all 403 Assembly Constituencies under the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Statue Site Development Scheme. In the first phase, 10 statue sites in each constituency will be developed.
The Directorate allocated the funds to District Magistrates on September 22, 2026, providing an average of around ₹10 lakh per site. The scheme aims to create safe, protected, clean and dignified surroundings for statues of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and other prominent personalities installed in public places.
What Will Change at the Sites
Development work will focus on basic protection, infrastructure and beautification. It will include:
- Railing-equipped steel staircases
- Roofs over statues
- Boundary walls and finishing work
- Greenery and lighting arrangements
Each site will also have a 3 × 2.5 feet information board carrying the statue’s name and a brief history, subject to approval by the District Magistrate.
The scheme also provides for replacing an old or damaged statue at a public site with a new marble statue, where required.

Work to Be Completed by December 31
The government has fixed December 31, 2026 as the target for completing the development of the identified sites.
Separate timelines have been set for receiving proposals and applications, conducting site inspections, preparing estimates and completing tender-related procedures. After the district-level fund allocation, implementing agencies and administrative and financial approvals will be taken forward.
The scheme is intended not only to improve the physical condition of statue sites but also to create cleaner, more organised public spaces that preserve the memory and contributions of prominent social and national figures.
