Champawat: The Uttarakhand government has launched a major healthcare upgrade in border districts, including Champawat, with infrastructure investments worth over ₹40 crore. MRI Facility Installed with CSR Support
A key highlight of the initiative is the installation of an advanced MRI machine in Champawat district hospital.
- Cost of MRI machine: nearly ₹6 crore
- Funding support: ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth (CSR initiative)

The facility is expected to significantly reduce the need for patients from Champawat and nearby districts to travel to cities like Haldwani for specialised scans.

- ₹11.71 crore allocated for diagnostic wing, modern operation theatres, and parking facilities
- Additional upgrades aimed at improving patient care and hospital efficiency

Strengthening Healthcare Education and Workforce
The government is also focusing on building medical manpower in the region:
- A 129-bed hostel for Integrated Nursing Institute completed at a cost of ₹4.7 crore
- Plans underway for a new paramedical college in Champawat
These initiatives aim to ensure a steady supply of trained healthcare professionals for Uttarakhand’s rural and border districts.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the government is working to create a future-ready healthcare ecosystem across Uttarakhand.
He emphasized that residents of Champawat, Pithoragarh, Almora, and nearby regions will now have access to advanced diagnostics for:

- Spinal conditions
- Cancer
- Stroke
The CM also reiterated that financial constraints should not prevent access to treatment under schemes like Ayushman Bharat and Atal Ayushman Uttarakhand, which provide free and cashless healthcare services.
