New Delhi: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a strategic meeting with Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri at Kartavya Bhavan to address critical issues related to LPG supply, disaster preparedness, and public welfare in Uttarakhand.
Focus on Uninterrupted LPG Supply for Char Dham Yatra
During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to maintain 100% supply of commercial LPG cylinders for the smooth and safe conduct of the Char Dham Yatra.
He noted that the annual pilgrimage, held from April to November, attracts lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad, significantly increasing demand for LPG. Uttarakhand requires approximately 967,949 commercial LPG cylinders during this period to support hotels, restaurants, and essential services catering to pilgrims.
Additional LPG Allocation for Disaster Preparedness
Highlighting the state’s vulnerability to natural disasters, especially during the monsoon season (June–September), Dhami stressed the importance of LPG in relief and rescue operations.
He requested an additional 5% allocation of commercial LPG cylinders, amounting to around 48,397 extra cylinders, to ensure effective emergency response during disasters in the hilly terrain.
Tourism Economy and Strategic Importance
The Chief Minister reiterated that Uttarakhand’s economy is heavily dependent on tourism, including religious and adventure tourism. He described the Char Dham Yatra as a cornerstone of the state’s cultural identity and economic activity.
Ensuring uninterrupted LPG supply, he said, is essential not only for pilgrims but also for sustaining local businesses and livelihoods.
Centre Assures Support to Uttarakhand
Responding positively, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri assured that necessary steps would be taken to address Uttarakhand’s concerns. He reaffirmed the Central Government’s commitment to supporting the state’s needs, particularly in ensuring energy security and disaster preparedness.
CM Reviews Public Grievances and Governance
Apart from high-level discussions, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also interacted with citizens at his office, Mukhya Sevak Sadan.
He addressed a range of public grievances related to infrastructure, healthcare, and local administration. Dhami directed officials to ensure swift and efficient resolution of issues, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and responsive governance.
Strengthening Disaster Readiness and Public Services
The meeting and subsequent public outreach underline the Uttarakhand government’s focus on:
- Strengthening disaster management systems
- Ensuring uninterrupted essential supplies
- Supporting tourism-driven economic growth
- Improving citizen service delivery
These initiatives aim to enhance preparedness, boost economic stability, and improve the overall quality of life in the state.
