New Delhi: Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, chaired a high-level review meeting at Uttarakhand Niwas to assess progress on key border infrastructure and trade initiatives along the India–Nepal frontier.
Senior officials, including the Chairman of Land Ports Authority of India, Jayant Singh, were present during the meeting.
Focus on Banbasa Land Port Project
During the discussion, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the under-construction modern land port at Banbasa (Gudmi) in Champawat district, located along the India–Nepal border.
Dhami emphasized that connecting this project with the Asian Highway Network would significantly enhance international connectivity. He described the initiative as a major step toward boosting cross-border trade and regional development.
Strengthening Trade in Border Areas
The meeting also covered key issues related to border trade and infrastructure development in Pithoragarh district, particularly in the border towns of Dharchula and Jhulaghat.
Officials discussed ways to improve transportation, trade flow, and basic infrastructure in these strategically important regions.
Priority to Local Needs and Economy
Chief Minister Dhami stressed that development projects must prioritize local needs and public welfare. He highlighted that strengthening infrastructure would:
- Boost local products and industries
- Provide better market access to border communities
- Enhance the regional economy
- Create new employment opportunities
Directive for Timely Project Completion
The Chief Minister instructed the Land Ports Authority of India to ensure that all ongoing projects in border areas are completed in a time-bound and well-organized manner.
He emphasized that timely execution is essential so that local residents can benefit from improved facilities and economic opportunities as soon as possible.
Boost to India–Nepal Connectivity
The initiatives discussed in the meeting are expected to strengthen India–Nepal connectivity, improve trade infrastructure, and accelerate development in Uttarakhand’s border districts, positioning the region as a key hub for cross-border commerce.
