Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to preserving and promoting art, culture, and cinema while addressing a state-level felicitation ceremony in Raipur. The event was jointly organized by the Culture Department and the Chhattisgarh Film Development Corporation, bringing together documentary filmmakers, artists, and eminent personalities from various fields.

The Chief Minister emphasized that films are not merely a medium of entertainment but a powerful tool for social awareness and transformation.

Films as a Medium of Social Awareness and Change

Speaking at the event, CM Sai said that cinema plays a crucial role in shaping society’s thinking, values, and emotions. He highlighted that impactful films have historically contributed to social reform and moral development in India.

Citing examples from Indian cinema, he mentioned that films like Mother India strengthened values of sacrifice, dignity, and ethical responsibility in society.

Promotion of Chhattisgarhi Cinema and Local Talent

The Chief Minister underlined the rich legacy of Chhattisgarhi cinema and its growing recognition. He recalled that the first Chhattisgarhi film Kahe Debe Sandesh addressed social issues and delivered a strong message against societal evils.

He said that the regional film industry, popularly known as “Chhollywood,” is now achieving both artistic and commercial success. With the expansion of digital and OTT platforms, regional cinema is reaching wider audiences, making it essential to promote responsible and value-based storytelling.

Revival of Film Sector and New Film City Project

CM Sai stated that the state government is actively working to strengthen the film industry and provide opportunities to local talent. He informed that the Chhattisgarh Film Development Corporation has been reactivated to support the industry.

He also highlighted the foundation laying of a major ₹150 crore Chitratpala Film City and Tribal & Cultural Convention Centre earlier this year. The project is expected to boost film production, generate employment for artists, technicians, and workers, and promote film tourism in the state.

Special Documentary Screening and Cultural Recognition

A special screening of the award-winning Chhattisgarhi documentary “Chhattisgarh Ka Bhim – Chintaram”, which has received recognition in 11 countries, was held during the event. The Chief Minister appreciated the documentary’s contribution to showcasing the state’s cultural identity on a global platform.

He also extended birthday wishes to Chhattisgarh Film Development Corporation Chairperson Monica Sen (Su. Mona Sen), acknowledging her role in promoting the film industry.

Development Grants Announced for Local Communities

During the ceremony, CM Sai announced financial support for local development projects, including:

  • ₹20 lakh for development works in Gidhni Path, Chhura (Gariaband district)
  • ₹10 lakh for the construction of a Sen Samaj community building in Dhamtari

These announcements were aimed at strengthening local infrastructure and community facilities.

Government’s Commitment to Cultural Growth

The Chief Minister reiterated that the government remains committed to promoting art, culture, and cinema in Chhattisgarh. He said such recognition events encourage artists and creators while inspiring the next generation to contribute to the state’s cultural landscape.

He praised the Culture Department and Chhattisgarh Film Development Corporation for organizing the event and supporting creative talent across the state.
