Nagpur: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) Director (Technical – Operations & Planning) Dr Anjani Kumar visited the Urdhan Open Cast Mine (OCM) and Narayani mine in the Pench Area on October 8, 2026, to review mining operations and ongoing developmental activities.
During the visit, Dr Anjani Kumar assessed the overall progress of mining operations at both locations and reviewed key aspects related to safety, production, productivity and rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) activities.
WCL Director Stresses Workplace Safety and Quality Production
Dr Anjani Kumar directed officials and employees at the mines to maintain strict adherence to established safety standards and ensure safe working conditions.
He issued key directions covering:
- Strict compliance with all workplace safety standards.
- Continued focus on safe and quality coal production.
- Regular efforts to improve productivity.
- Effective monitoring of operational practices.
The Director (Technical) emphasised that safety must remain a priority while maintaining production and operational efficiency at the mines.

Rehabilitation and Resettlement Work Reviewed
During the visit, Dr Anjani Kumar also reviewed the progress of ongoing Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) works in the Pench Area.
He stressed that the pending R&R activities should be completed on a priority basis and in an effective, time-bound manner.
The review covered the progress of developmental activities associated with the mining operations, with officials briefing him on the status of the ongoing works.
Senior WCL Officials Brief Director on Mine Operations
Dr Anjani Kumar was accompanied by senior officials during his visit, including:
- Vikas Kumar Agrawal, General Manager, Pench Area
- Nitin Sen, Technical Secretary to Director (Technical – O&P)
- G.P. Khanna, General Manager (Underground)
- Other regional officials
The officials briefed the Director on current production activities, safety arrangements, operational practices and developmental works at the Urdhan OCM and Narayani mine.
The visit provided an opportunity to assess the operational progress of the mines and reinforce WCL’s focus on safe, efficient and sustainable mining practices.
