WCL Sets National Record with Highest 7 Five-Star Rated Mines in Ministry of Coal Assessment 2024-25

New Delhi: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has achieved a major milestone by securing the highest number of 5-Star Rated mines among all coal companies in the Ministry of Coal’s Star Rating Assessment for the financial year 2024-25.

A total of seven WCL mines have received the prestigious 5-Star Rating, highlighting the company’s strong commitment towards safe, scientific, environmentally responsible and sustainable mining operations.

The achievement reinforces WCL’s position as a leading coal mining company focused on operational excellence, environmental protection and advanced mining practices.

Seven WCL Mines Awarded 5-Star Rating

The Ministry of Coal recognised the outstanding performance of the following seven WCL mines with the 5-Star Rating:

  • Patansaongi Underground Mine – Nagpur Area
  • Nandgaon Incline Underground Mine – Chandrapur Area
  • Saoner Mine No. 1 Underground Mine – Nagpur Area
  • Saoner Mine No. 2 Underground Mine – Nagpur Area
  • Makardhokda-I Opencast Mine – Umred Area
  • Dinesh/MKD-III Opencast Mine – Umred Area
  • Mungoli Opencast Mine – Wani Area

These mines demonstrated exceptional performance in areas such as safety standards, environmental management, technological adoption, resource utilisation and operational efficiency.

WCL Mines Also Secure 4-Star and 3-Star Ratings

Along with the seven 5-Star rated mines, WCL also achieved strong performance in other categories.

Under the same assessment:

  • 25 WCL mines received a 4-Star Rating
  • 15 WCL mines received a 3-Star Rating

The results reflect the company’s consistent efforts towards improving mining standards across its operational areas.

Ministry of Coal’s Star Rating System Evaluates Key Mining Parameters

The Ministry of Coal’s Star Rating Assessment is a comprehensive evaluation framework designed to promote responsible and sustainable mining practices across the coal sector.
