In the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, an elderly Pandit man was living in difficult conditions. IAS Athar Aamir Khan stepped forward to help him.
The matter of Pyare Lal was brought to the attention of District Magistrate Athar Aamir Khan of Kulgam by a local news channel.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Athar Aamir Khan said, “I visited him today. We have made proper arrangements for him at our Senior Citizen Home but he didn’t want to move out despite our insistence. He doesn’t want to shift to any other place. So we are making arrangements at his home as well.”
The District Magistrate made this statement in response to a media article that featured an elderly man in Aamno village living in a run-down home with shredded mattresses, “The house needs repairs that will be done. His health check-up was also done. A doctor will also visit him regularly. Cleanliness and sanitation are being done. Ration, bedding, blankets etc. have been arranged. Our District Social Welfare Officer will be looking after his day-to-day care,” Mr. Khan further said in the post.
