Mr. Himanshu Nagpal, a 2019-batch IAS officer and currently the Chief Development Officer of Varanasi, recently took to X to share a significant milestone achieved by the city. Varanasi has been recognised by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for its compassionate and effective initiative focused on the rehabilitation of beggars and restoration of destitute individuals to their families.

Highlighting the achievement, Mr. Nagpal informed that over the past two years, more than 1,000 destitute individuals and beggars have been successfully rehabilitated under this initiative. The project has aimed not only at providing shelter and basic needs but also at helping individuals reconnect with their families and reintegrate into society.
UIDAI awarded Varanasi for this impactful initiative, acknowledging the city’s structured and sensitive approach to social welfare. The recognition stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to inclusive development and humane governance.
