Patna: The 114th Bihar Day celebrations began at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurating the three-day event. The theme for this year’s celebrations is “Progressive Bihar, Bright Bihar”, reflecting the state’s vision for development and prosperity. Various exhibitions highlighting ongoing development projects across departments were also showcased during the event.

Bihar Day 2026: Honoring History and Shaping the Future

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emphasized Bihar’s rich and glorious history while highlighting the state’s commitment to building a prosperous future. He stated that Bihar Day is an important initiative to strengthen the state’s identity and accelerate its development journey.

The event marks a celebration of Bihar’s cultural heritage, achievements, and development milestones, aiming to inspire citizens to contribute to the state’s growth.

CM Nitish Kumar’s Brief Appearance Sparks Speculation

This year’s Bihar Day ceremony witnessed a notably short visit by CM Nitish Kumar. The Chief Minister reportedly remained at the Gandhi Maidan for only two minutes to inaugurate the event before departing. Unlike previous years, where the CM actively engaged in the programs and delivered extended addresses, this time his brief presence became a talking point among attendees.

Speculations suggest that a busy schedule or pre-planned commitments may have led to the abbreviated visit, though no official explanation has been provided.

Cultural Extravaganza at Gandhi Maidan

Despite the CM’s short stay, the celebrations featured a vibrant lineup of cultural programs. Popular local singer Satyendra Sangeet performed several songs, including traditional Chhath festival melodies, captivating the audience and adding a festive spirit to the event.

The celebrations also included exhibitions of state-led development initiatives, highlighting infrastructure, health, and social welfare projects, offering attendees a glimpse into Bihar’s progress.

Bihar’s 114-Year Journey

Bihar was established on March 22, 1912, following its separation from Bengal on a linguistic basis. Over the past 114 years, the state has made significant strides in governance, infrastructure, and socio-economic development.

This year’s event is particularly noteworthy as it is expected to be CM Nitish Kumar’s last Bihar Day celebration in his capacity as Chief Minister before he transitions to the Rajya Sabha, marking the end of an era in Bihar’s political landscape.

A Celebration of Culture and Progress

Bihar Day 2026 successfully combined tradition, culture, and development. While CM Nitish Kumar’s short visit drew attention, the vibrant performances, exhibitions, and enthusiastic participation of citizens highlighted Bihar’s journey toward becoming a progressive and prosperous state. The three-day festivities continue until March 24, 2026, promising more cultural and developmental showcases across Patna.
