Guntur Rural SP’s interactive programme with the common people, where he listens to their problems and solves them on the spot, is the talk of the town. This grievance redressal interaction is held every Wednesday at 11 AM where the 2010-batch IPS officer, Mr. Vishal Gunni, talks to people over phone and address their issues. A special number – 8688405050 – has been made available to the public for this ‘Dial Your SP’ initiative.

Indian Masterminds talked to Superintendent of Police, Guntur Rural, Mr. Vishal Gunni, to get more details about this people-friendly initiative.

DIAL YOUR SP

The complaints come from all areas and ranges from domestic and family disputes to property issue to sexual abuse. The SP and his team give patient hearing to all complaints and issue orders to concerned SHOs and SIs to solve them at the earliest.

SP Gunni said, “Guntur is a vast district, and it is extremely difficult for all the people, including women, children and elderly, to contact the SP directly. Now, this programme has made it possible. The videos have gone viral, and people are praising this initiative. ‘Dial Your SP’ is actually an extension of the Spandana programme.”

Spandana is a grievance redressal programme initiated by the government of Andhra Pradesh. The programme is conducted every Monday in all police stations and the respective officials address many cases there itself.

The SP further informed that based on the ‘Dial Your SP’ programme, several cases are being followed up and action being taken. He also requested the public to be accurate and specific about their complaints. In case of emergency, police are always available through Dial 100 and also the DISHA app.

The DISHA app, an initiative taken up by the state government for the safety of women, is gaining popularity by the day and has overtaken Dial 100 helpline in the number of calls received per day.

PROBLEM SOLVING SESSION

After hearing complaints on the ‘Dial Your SP’ session, SP Gunni issues orders to concerned officials to take prompt action on those matters. “All SHOs and SIs are logged into the system. Several pending issues have been solved and rest, we are working upon. We have solved even a decade-old problem of a woman seeking custody of her children. The police personnel are especially trained on behavior psychology to be able to handle matters sensitively.”

DON’T MAKE FALSE COMPLAINT

Although happy with the positive response the programme is receiving from the public, at the same time, SP Gunni warned of stern action against those who furnish wrong information to the ‘Dial Your SP’ programme. He urged people to avail their services to solve their problems and grievances and sought their cooperation for the success of the ‘Dial Your SP’ programme.
