Social media and online content have become an integral part of our life, and video-sharing websites such as YouTube is extremely popular owing to readymade content for improving different aspects of our lives.

Adapting to the new trend of content creating and video sharing, IAS officer Swapnil Tembe, the Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills, Meghalaya, has started his own playlists on the website, where he shares a series of videos related to important topics for people to understand and work upon.

In an exclusive conversation with Indian Masterminds, the officer talked about his videos in detail.

FOR UPSC CANDIDATES

The region near East Garo Hills of Meghalaya is particularly remote. There aren’t any proper coaching classes for UPSC aspirants. Most of them depend on self-study while preparing for competitive examinations like Civil Service Examination.

To help these aspirants, Mr. Tembe had begun taking weekly classes in his office to impart guidance, but the pandemic disrupted it. That’s when he decided to begin live streaming of his classes from his home so that even students from far-off places can benefit.

“It really helped a lot of people. Therefore, I decided to make small videos for the aspirants doing self-preparation, which they can watch according to their convenience. The idea was to guide them on how to self-prepare and give them useful tips related to the preparation,” Mr. Tembe told Indian Masterminds.

Now, he records concise videos, breaks them into several episodes, and releases them in the form of a series. His playlist includes 12 different topics, each within the span of 30 minutes.

OFFICE PROCEDURE

Having worked in civil service for almost 10 years now, the officer realized that the staff and assistants do not have the right knowledge of proper office procedures and working. There are a lot of aspects that they need to work upon.

Initially, the officer used to train his staff regarding this, but soon, he realized that he will not be able to do this every time he receives a new posting. Therefore, he decided to document it and make a YouTube playlist specifically for this purpose.

“It was appreciated immensely. Therefore, I decided to make short videos on several important office topics which are otherwise overlooked. It became a series that is now helping other DCs. They are using it to train their staff in their offices,” stated the officer.

It is noteworthy that this is probably the first time that such a series has been documented and uploaded by a government official on YouTube.

VLOGGING HIS EXPERIENCES

Following the trend of YouTube Vlogging, the officer has a separate playlist on his channel where he vlogs the places he visits and about the beauty of Meghalaya.

“The beautiful, unique, and unexplored regions of Meghalaya are still a mystery to many. Through my vlogs, people can actually see what’s on the ground. The series includes everything, like village visits, the problems that they have, the beauty of Garo hills which is hardly known in India, etc. There are almost 30-40 different vlogs, giving people a virtual experience of living in the region,” Mr. Tembe said.
