Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Friday declared the result of Civil Services Exam-2020. Shubham Kumar of Bihar’s Katihar distrct has topped the prestigious exam. Jagriti Awasthi and Ankita Jain has been second and third respectively.
A total of 761 candidates including 545 men and 216 women, have passed in the examination, which was held to fill 836 positions in Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Services (IPS) and other central services. These include 180 IAS, 36 IFS, 200 IPS, besides 302 posts of Central Service Group A and 118 posts of Group B.
There are 13 men and 12 women in the top 25. While 5 women have made it to the top 10. This year, 545 males and 216 females are among those who have cleared one of the most difficult exam in the country.
24 year old and IIT Bombay alumni Shubham has cleared the exam third time. Earlier, he had got the honor in 2018 and 2019 as well. He had 290 rank in 2019. Shubham is currently training in the Indian Defense Accounts Service. Shubham’s father is a manager in Gramin Bank.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh congratulated to all successful candidate and lauded the perfect gender balance in top 20 list. He tweeted, “Congratulations to all the UPSC candidates who have cleared Civil Services Exam. Civil services under PM Narendra Modi ji being reoriented for New India. Congrats Shubham Kumar, Jagruti Awasthi & Ankita Jain, first 3 toppers in Civil Services Exam 2020. Highlight this year,among 20 toppers are equal number of male & female candidates,ie 10 each. Like every year DoPT (The Department of Personnel and Training) to soon host direct interactive cum felicitation meet with 20 toppers.”

Riya Dabi, sister of 2015 batch topper Tina Dabi also cleared the exam. Riya Dabi has secured 15th rank. Ria and Tina are both alumnus of Lady Shri Ram College of Delhi University.
IAS Tina Dabi is currently posted in the Rajasthan cadre as the Joint Secretary Finance (Tax). She tweeted, “I am delighted to share that my younger sister Ria Dabi has got rank 15 in UPSC 2020 exam.
263 candidates from general category, 86 from economically backward classes, 229 from backward classes, 122 from scheduled castes, 61 from scheduled tribes have passed the exam. Apart from this, 150 candidates have been kept in reserve too.
As many as 10,40,060 candidates applied for the country’s most prestigious UPSC examination, out of whom 4,82,770 appeared in it. The preliminary examination was held on 4 October last year. A total of 10,564 candidates qualified for the main (written) exam which was held in January 2021. Of them, 2,053 candidates qualified for the Interview.
