IAS P. Amudha who worked in an operation to capture Veerappan in Sathayamangalam forest, looked after relief measures during the 2015-chennai flood is all set to return back to Tamil Nadu.
IAS P. Amudha hails from Tamil Nadu’s Madhurai. She was the Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s office. Her return is based on the request of the state government. It is speculated that the officer is likely to be given an important portfolio in the state.
According to a report, IAS Amudha, 1994 batch officer, was initially posted as a sub-collector in Gobi-Chettipalayam of Erode. She had ventured into the forest to meet the locals where she gained public trust. Later, she undertook several reform measures in the region.
She then served as the Collector of Dharmapuri district where she helped in empowering women, putting an end to female infanticide, and increasing the literacy rate among women in the district.
She was then given additional duty as Chief Electoral Officer in Public (Elections). Later she was posted as project director for Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society. In her service spanning over 25 years, she has worked in at least 15 departments.
However, the commitment of Amudha, who is known for her fearless service, was known when she met with an accident while she was traveling to Tirusulam to seal a quarry owned by an infamous history-sheeter. Amudha eventually recovered from the injuries and once again took action against the sand miners and illegal quarry operators in Chengalpattu.
During the Chennai floods in 2015, she played a pivotal role as a special officer in handling the monsoon relief works.
In 2019, she was appointed as a professor of Public Administration in Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Uttarakhand’s Mussoorie. She was later appointed as Joint Secretary in PMO in 2020 till 2022.
