Lucknow: The Agra Railway Division is set to hold a meeting with Members of Parliament on October 9 to discuss long-pending demands related to train stoppages, new services, extensions and station development.
The meeting is significant because the division is holding its interaction with MPs after a gap of three years. Suggestions and complaints from elected representatives are expected to form an important part of the discussion on improving rail services across the region.
According to the report, MPs from nine Lok Sabha constituencies and four Rajya Sabha members have been invited to the meeting. Railway officials will discuss the suggestions already submitted by MPs and consider them while planning future passenger facilities and services.
MPs to Discuss Train and Station Demands
The meeting will bring together railway officials and MPs representing areas falling under the Agra division.
The invited Lok Sabha representatives are from Agra, Mathura, Dholpur, Fatehpur Sikri, Bharatpur, Dausa, Alwar, Faridabad and Etawah.
Four Rajya Sabha MPs have also been invited: Jayant Chaudhary, Naveen Jain, Ramjilal Suman and Tejveer Singh.
The suggestions received from MPs cover several issues that directly affect passengers, including:
- New train services
- Additional train stoppages
- Extension of existing trains
- Development and modernisation of railway stations
- Other passenger-related railway facilities
These demands are particularly important for passengers in areas where train connectivity and convenient stoppages can influence daily commuting, business travel and access to major cities.

Meeting Comes After Three-Year Gap
The Agra Railway Division’s previous meeting with MPs was held in 2023.
Under Railway Board norms, railway divisions are expected to hold meetings with Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members from their respective jurisdictions every year. These meetings provide a platform for MPs to raise passenger concerns, discuss railway projects and place demands for improvements in their constituencies.
The three-year gap makes the upcoming meeting particularly important for reviewing accumulated demands and discussing newer requirements.
The October 9 meeting is scheduled for 11 am at a five-star hotel in Agra, according to Agra Division PRO Sanjay Kumar Gautam.
Senior Railway Officials to Attend
The meeting will also bring senior officials from North Central Railway and the Agra division into direct discussion with the MPs.
North Central Railway General Manager Naresh Pal Singh is scheduled to reach Agra on Friday morning. The meeting will also be attended by Agra Division DRM Gagan Goyal, along with officials from the Prayagraj headquarters and the Agra division.
The participation of senior officials is expected to allow constituency-level demands to be discussed directly with the authorities responsible for railway operations and development.
Naresh Pal Singh and Gagan Goyal have also been involved in recent inspections and railway development activities in the Agra division. Recent railway reports have identified Singh as North Central Railway’s General Manager and Goyal as Agra Division’s DRM.
What the Meeting Could Mean for Passengers
For passengers, the most important outcome could be greater attention to requests that have remained pending or require coordination at higher levels.
Train stoppages are often a major concern for residents of smaller cities and towns. A suitable stoppage can reduce the need to travel to a larger station and improve access to important destinations.
Similarly, requests for new trains or extensions can improve connectivity for people travelling for education, employment, healthcare, business and other purposes.
Station development is another major area of discussion. Better stations can improve passenger experience through upgraded platforms, circulation areas, accessibility facilities, cleanliness, waiting areas and other amenities.
However, the meeting itself does not mean that every demand will automatically receive approval. Railway decisions depend on operational feasibility, passenger demand, infrastructure capacity and other technical considerations.
MPs’ Local Inputs to Feed Railway Planning
The importance of the meeting lies in bringing local concerns directly into the railway planning process.
MPs represent constituencies spread across different parts of the Agra division and can highlight issues that may not always emerge from railway-level assessments alone. Their suggestions can provide officials with a constituency-level picture of passenger requirements.
The discussion can therefore help railway authorities prioritise demands and examine where changes in services or infrastructure may have the greatest passenger impact.
For the Agra division, the meeting also provides an opportunity to review the region’s changing connectivity requirements as cities and towns expand and passenger movement increases.
A Platform for Better Coordination
The October 9 interaction is expected to serve as a coordination platform between elected representatives and railway authorities.
Regular consultations can help reduce communication gaps, allow MPs to track the progress of earlier demands and enable railway officials to explain the operational or technical challenges involved in implementing particular requests.
With the previous meeting held in 2023, the latest interaction provides an opportunity to bring several years of passenger demands back into formal discussion.
If followed by regular reviews and action on feasible proposals, such consultations can contribute to more responsive railway planning across the Agra region.
The larger objective is to ensure that railway development keeps pace with passenger needs—from better train connectivity and convenient stoppages to modern stations and improved travel facilities.
