IAS Jain Takes Charge as Rewa Municipal Commissioner | Know His UPSC Rank, Career, and Background
Indian Masterminds Stories

Rewa (MP): In a significant administrative reshuffle in Madhya Pradesh, 2019-batch IAS officer Akshat Jain has been appointed as the new Municipal Commissioner of Rewa.

The appointment comes following a major bureaucratic overhaul carried out by the state government earlier this month, aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency across districts.

Takes Charge After Major Administrative Changes

Akshat Jain replaces Sanjay Sonawane, who was recently appointed as the Collector of Betul district during the April 9 reshuffle.

The position of Municipal Commissioner in Rewa had remained vacant after Sonawane’s transfer. Jain’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to bring fresh energy and administrative expertise to the urban governance system in the city.

Previous Role: CEO, Zila Panchayat Betul

Before this new assignment, Akshat Jain was serving as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the District Panchayat in Betul since July 24, 2023.

During his tenure, he gained valuable grassroots administrative experience, particularly in rural governance and development, which is expected to aid him in handling urban challenges in Rewa.

UPSC Topper with Strong Academic Background

Akshat Jain is widely known for his exceptional academic achievements:

  • Secured All India Rank 2 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2018
  • Belongs to the 2019 batch of IAS (Madhya Pradesh cadre)
  • Holds a degree in Design Engineering from IIT Guwahati

Interestingly, his UPSC journey reflects perseverance—he narrowly missed qualifying in his first attempt by just two marks before securing a top rank in his next attempt.

Family Background in Civil Services

Akshat Jain comes from a distinguished family of civil servants:

  • His father, D C Jain, serves as Joint Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi
  • His mother, Simmi Jain, is an IRS officer serving as Additional Director General at NACIN, Jaipur

This strong administrative lineage is believed to have played a role in shaping his career aspirations.

Early Education and Journey to Civil Services

Akshat completed his schooling at India International School, Jaipur, where he consistently excelled academically. After graduating from IIT Guwahati in 2017, he began preparing for the UPSC examination.

Despite narrowly missing success in his first attempt, he demonstrated resilience and secured AIR 2 in his second attempt—marking one of the most impressive success stories among recent civil services toppers.

Expectations from His New Role

With his appointment as Rewa Municipal Commissioner, expectations are high for improved urban governance, better civic infrastructure, and efficient service delivery.

His experience in district-level administration and understanding of grassroots issues are likely to play a crucial role in addressing urban challenges in Rewa.

Conclusion

The appointment of Akshat Jain reflects the Madhya Pradesh government’s emphasis on placing capable and dynamic officers in key administrative roles. As a young IAS officer with a stellar academic record and growing administrative experience, Jain is expected to bring impactful changes to Rewa’s municipal administration.
