New Delhi/Jammu: Jammu-born Arjun Gupta, IAS (AGMUT:2024), has been posted as Joint Commissioner (Industries) in the Delhi Government with immediate effect.
The posting was ordered by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on August 14, 2026.
Gupta, a 2024-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, was serving as Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD), New Delhi, a position he assumed on March 24, 2026.
The new assignment gives the young officer an important responsibility in Delhi’s industrial administration.
Who Is Arjun Gupta?
Born on April 14, 1997, Arjun Gupta is an IAS officer of the 2024 batch of the AGMUT cadre. He secured All India Rank 32 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023, earning a place in the Indian Administrative Service.
Gupta had already demonstrated his academic and competitive credentials by securing AIR 1 in the Indian Economic Service (IES) examination in 2022.
He completed his schooling at Army Public School, Kaluchak, and MVM Senior Secondary School in Jammu. He later pursued a five-year Integrated BS-MS degree in Economics from IIT Kanpur, where he graduated with honours, including the Burton Moyer Gold Medal.
During his academic years, Gupta also won the RBI Policy Challenge in 2019 and subsequently interned with the Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Department.
His latest posting as Joint Commissioner Industries comes after his stint in the Ministry of Women and Child Development and marks another significant responsibility early in his IAS career.
IPS Manish Devaraj Patil Appointed Investigation Officer in Medico Priyanka Case
Meanwhile, in Andhra Pradesh, the state government has appointed IPS officer Manish Devaraj Patil as the investigation officer in the medico Priyanka case.
Priyanka died after suffering critical injuries when a car allegedly driven by youths under the influence of alcohol hit her.
Patil is currently serving as Additional Superintendent of Police, East Godavari district. The government has directed him to oversee the investigation and ensure that the probe is conducted thoroughly.
Patil to Supervise Probe With Local Police Officials
The state government has directed Patil to coordinate with the police officials concerned while supervising the investigation.
The authorities have also been instructed to ensure that the accused are punished in accordance with law following the investigation and due legal process.
To assist Patil in the probe, the government has directed Rajamahendravaram South Zone DSP Shiva Priya and Prakash Nagar Police Inspector Bajilal to work with him.
The appointment is aimed at ensuring close supervision of the investigation and a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the medico Priyanka case.
Two Key Administrative and Police Developments
The two developments involve young officers taking up significant responsibilities in Delhi and Andhra Pradesh.
While Arjun Gupta has moved into an important administrative role as Joint Commissioner (Industries) in Delhi following an impressive academic and UPSC record, Manish Devaraj Patil has been entrusted with supervising a sensitive investigation in Andhra Pradesh.
