Guwahati: The Assam government has officially suspended Indreswar Kalita, an IAS officer serving as the Secretary of the state’s Excise Department, following his arrest by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell in connection with a corruption case. Kalita, a 2012-batch IAS officer, was detained on January 29, 2025, under multiple sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Kalita’s arrest is linked to Vigilance P.S Case No.02/2024, and he was held for over 48 hours before his suspension was announced. In an official notification issued on February 6, 2025, the Governor of Assam invoked his powers under the All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969, to place Kalita under suspension, effective from the date of his arrest — January 29, 2025.
The notification, issued by T. P. Borgohain, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Assam Personnel (A) Department, confirmed that Kalita would remain on suspension until further orders are issued. During this period, Kalita will be stationed in Guwahati, and he is entitled to Subsistence Allowance as per the relevant service rules.
The suspension order was circulated to various departments within the Assam government, including the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and the Secretary to the Government of India’s Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pension.
