BEL Signs MoU with IISc-Backed FSID to Boost Defence Innovation and Indigenous Technology Development

Partnership under Corporate Innovation Program to promote startups, academia, and MSMEs for strengthening India’s aerospace and defence ecosystem aligned with Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.

Bengaluru: Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Foundation for Science, Innovation and Development (FSID), an initiative of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. The partnership aims to strengthen defence innovation and indigenous technology development under BEL’s Corporate Innovation Program (CIP).

The collaboration will focus on fostering innovation-driven partnerships with startups, academia, and MSMEs to enhance India’s defence and aerospace capabilities.

Strengthening Indigenous Defence Innovation

The MoU highlights BEL’s commitment to advancing self-reliant technological capabilities in the aerospace and defence sectors.

By partnering with FSID-IISc, BEL aims to leverage advanced research, innovation ecosystems, and cutting-edge development to strengthen India’s strategic preparedness.

Officials said the initiative aligns with the broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat by promoting domestic innovation and reducing dependency on foreign technologies.

Collaboration with Startups, Academia and MSMEs

As part of the Corporate Innovation Program, BEL and FSID will work together to create opportunities for:

  • Startups working in defence technology
  • Academic institutions and research bodies
  • Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)

The partnership is expected to build a strong innovation pipeline for emerging technologies in defence and aerospace sectors.

Focus on Advanced Research and Development

The collaboration will leverage IISc Bengaluru’s expertise in science and innovation through FSID to support BEL’s R&D initiatives.

This includes developing new technologies, improving operational capabilities, and strengthening India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.

Officials said the partnership will help accelerate innovation and bring research-driven solutions into practical defence applications.

Step Towards Atmanirbhar Bharat in Defence Sector

The MoU reflects BEL’s proactive approach to stakeholder engagement and its continued focus on promoting indigenous innovation.

It reinforces efforts to build a self-reliant defence ecosystem supported by academia-industry collaboration and technological advancement.
