In a shocking case of impersonation, Bengaluru police have arrested a man for posing as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and misleading several people, including government officials in Chikkamagaluru district.
The accused, identified as Mithun C.R., claimed to be a senior IAS officer posted at Arogya Soudha in Bengaluru. In February 2026, he visited the district hospital in Chikkamagaluru and held meetings with District Surgeon Dr. H.B. Chandrashekhar and hospital staff.
He later met a medical shop owner along with the district surgeon. Mithun allegedly promised the shop owner a medicine supply tender. In return, he demanded a bribe. The shop owner later filed a complaint with Sampigehalli Police in Bengaluru, leading to Mithun’s arrest.
FROM FAKE OFFICER TO PUBLIC FELICITATION
During the investigation, police found that Mithun had also taken money from the district surgeon by claiming that he had not received his salary.

In a surprising twist, the accused was publicly felicitated at an event in Chikkamagaluru on February 28. At the programme, he was introduced as someone who had cleared the UPSC examination and joined the IAS in 2023.
The event was organised by a local group, and even religious leaders attended it. Later, organisers admitted they were misled and had trusted information given by others.
Meanwhile, advocate Sangeetha Prasad has demanded a detailed probe into the case. She has also called for an investigation into the role of the district surgeon, as the alleged bribery incident took place in his presence.
Police are continuing their investigation to find out how the accused managed to deceive so many people.
