In a significant move just before the 15th of August, the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government has promoted 20 officers of the Bihar Administrative Service (BAS) to the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS). The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions of the Central Government issued the official notification on Monday, confirming the promotions.

Key Promotions

These promotions come as a recognition of the exemplary service of these officers, who have been elevated to IAS from the 39th batch of the Bihar Administrative Service. Their first postings as IAS officers will be as Joint Secretaries in various departments, marking a new chapter in their administrative careers.

Notable Officers Promoted

Among the officers promoted are several who have held critical positions in the state:

  • Dr. Nandlal Arya: Personal Secretary to the Minister of Information and Technology, Santosh Kumar Suman.
  • Rajesh Kumar Singh: Personal Secretary to the Minister of Sugarcane, Krishnanandan Paswan.
  • Rajneesh Kumar Singh: Director of Prisons.
  • Dr. Rajesh Bharti: Additional Director, along with Mrityunjay Kumar and Sujit Kumar.
  • Rajesh Kumar Singh, Rakesh Ranjan, Sanjay Kumar, and Shambhu Sharan: Officers who have consistently contributed to various administrative roles.
  • Rajesh Kumar Singh, Rajesh Kumar, Sunil Kumar, and Madhav Kumar Singh: Key officers in the state’s governance.
  • Ahmed Mahmood, Vinayak Mishra, Suman Kumar, and Kumar Mangalam: Recognized for their dedication to public service.
  • Waris Khan, Akhilesh Kumar Singh, and Atul Kumar Verma: Prominent figures in the state’s administration.

A Continued Trend of Promotions

This latest promotion is part of a broader trend observed over the past few years. In 2023 alone, a total of 54 BAS officers were promoted to the IAS, filling vacancies from the previous three years. Specifically, 27 officers were promoted to IAS for the year 2020, 24 for 2021, and 9 for 2022. The vacancies for 2023 have now been addressed with this recent round of promotions.

These promotions reflect the state government’s commitment to strengthening the administrative framework by recognizing and elevating deserving officers who have demonstrated outstanding service in their roles. As they step into their new positions as IAS officers, they are expected to bring their experience and expertise to higher levels of governance, further contributing to Bihar’s development.
