New Delhi: The Union government on Monday officially notified the appointment of three judges and one additional judge to the Patna, Allahabad, and Uttarakhand High Courts. The appointments, made following recommendations by the Supreme Court Collegium, were announced by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on X (formerly Twitter).

Appointments to Patna High Court

Advocates Ritesh Kumar and Praveen Kumar have been appointed as judges of the Patna High Court.

Ritesh Kumar was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on February 20, 2025. His name had been pending for several months, along with that of Advocate Anshul Raj, whose appointment is still awaited.

Praveen Kumar was recommended on July 1, 2025, alongside Advocate Ajit Kumar, whose appointment had already been notified on August 2, 2025.

These appointments strengthen the judicial bench at Patna High Court, which has seen a backlog of cases pending for several months.

Appointment to Allahabad High Court

Advocate Jai Krishna Upadhyay has been appointed as a judge of the Allahabad High Court. His name was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on September 1, 2025, along with 11 other advocates.

Out of the 12 recommended names, 10 had already been notified by September 26, 2025, leaving Upadhyay and Adnan Ahmad pending.

With the latest notification, Jai Krishna Upadhyay’s appointment has been cleared, while Adnan Ahmad’s nomination remains pending.

Appointment to Uttarakhand High Court

Advocate Siddhartha Sah has been appointed as an Additional Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court.

His name was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on October 17, 2023, along with Alok Mehra, who was appointed in February 2025.

Sah’s appointment had remained pending for over two years and has now been officially notified, completing the long-awaited process.

Significance of the Appointments

The appointments address vacancies in key High Courts and are expected to aid in reducing the backlog of cases. The government’s action reflects adherence to the Supreme Court’s collegium recommendations and ensures the timely induction of qualified advocates into the judiciary.
