Raipur: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale said the Union Budget 2026–27 is giving a strong push to Chhattisgarh’s inclusive development, with ₹50,427 crore proposed as tax devolution to the state.

The Centre has also provided a ₹15,000 crore grant provision for FY 2025–26, aimed at strengthening the state’s financial capacity and supporting infrastructure works.

Welfare Schemes Reach Millions

Athawale highlighted the progress of several central schemes across the state.

Under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, more than 1.88 crore bank accounts have been opened, with deposits exceeding ₹9,324 crore. Under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, over 39.75 lakh LPG connections have been provided to households.

The Centre has also approved five new medical colleges, expanding opportunities for medical education and healthcare infrastructure.

Housing and Infrastructure Push

Under PMAY-Urban, more than 1.77 lakh houses have been constructed with an allocation of ₹4,699 crore. Meanwhile, 1.08 crore LED bulbs have been distributed under the UJALA scheme.

In Korba, an Indian Oil bottling plant built at a cost of over ₹130 crore is supporting logistics, local employment and energy security.

Focus on Social Welfare

The Centre has also funded five de-addiction centres and three old-age homes in the region as part of social defence initiatives.

Earlier, Athawale chaired a review meeting with senior Chhattisgarh government officials and the Raipur Municipal Corporation. The meeting assessed the implementation of welfare schemes and reviewed progress on SC/ST backlog recruitment.

The government said the combined focus on financial support, welfare delivery, healthcare, housing and employment is aimed at ensuring that development reaches poorer, rural and tribal communities across Chhattisgarh.
