New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched the ‘Door-to-Door Waste Collection and Secondary Transportation’ project in the West Delhi Municipal Corporation area to strengthen solid waste management through advanced technology and improved monitoring systems.
The Chief Minister flagged off a fleet of modern waste collection vehicles equipped with advanced technology during the launch event. After the programme, she interacted with Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sanitation workers, appreciated their contribution towards maintaining cleanliness and shared a meal with them as a gesture of gratitude for their dedication and service.
The event was attended by Delhi Cabinet Ministers Ashish Sood and Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi, MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, and other dignitaries.
Delhi Government Aims for Technology-Based Waste Management System
CM Rekha Gupta said the objective of the project is not just waste collection but the development of a modern, transparent, technology-driven and citizen-centric solid waste management system.
She said the new system will make door-to-door waste collection:
- More efficient.
- Time-bound.
- Transparent.
- Accountable.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the initiative will play an important role in building a cleaner, healthier and more beautiful Delhi.
She also appealed to citizens to cooperate with the new waste collection system, ensure proper segregation of wet and dry waste and contribute towards maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings.
Project to Cover 4.5 Lakh Families Across 25 West Delhi Wards
The new waste management project will cover around 4.50 lakh households across 25 wards of West Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Implementation details:
- The first phase has started in 6 wards.
- The remaining 19 wards will be included by August 31, 2026.
The project aims to ensure complete and timely waste collection from every household through improved infrastructure and modern equipment.
917 Modern Vehicles Deployed for Door-to-Door Waste Collection
To strengthen sanitation services, the government has deployed 917 advanced vehicles and waste collection resources.
The fleet includes:
- 225 e-rickshaws for easy access in narrow lanes.
- 550 mini tippers for waste transportation.
- 52 compactors.
- 41 hook loaders.
- 28 Tata 407 vehicles.
- 10 dumpers.
- 6 bin washers.
- 123 Fixed Compaction Transfer Station (FCTS) bins.
- 1.1 CBM bins with 1,300-litre capacity.
These resources will help ensure 100% timely and effective waste collection from residential areas.
GPS Monitoring, Control Room and Digital Technology to Improve Operations
The entire waste collection system will be digitally monitored through advanced technology platforms.
Key monitoring features include:
- GPS-based war room.
- Central control room.
- ESBM mobile application.
- CCTV surveillance.
- Dedicated helpline services.
The technology-based monitoring system will help track vehicle movement, improve accountability and provide faster solutions to citizen complaints.
Modern Fixed Compaction Transfer Stations to Replace Traditional Dumps
Under the project, traditional garbage dumping points will gradually be replaced with modern Fixed Compaction Transfer Stations (FCTS).
These modern facilities will be:
- Cleaner.
- Odour-free.
- Mechanically operated.
- Environment-friendly.
The mechanical cleaning of bins and transfer stations will help improve hygiene standards and provide a better waste management experience for citizens.
Delhi Government Focuses on Twice-a-Day Garbage Collection
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the government has ensured that household waste will now be collected twice daily — in the morning and evening.
He said modern waste collection vehicles and improved municipal systems will help transform Delhi’s cleanliness infrastructure.
He added that the capital is moving towards a new era of cleanliness and better waste management, replacing earlier challenges of garbage accumulation and poor sanitation.
Project Will Modernise Waste Management in Delhi: Ashish Sood
Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood described the initiative as a major step towards modernising the city’s sanitation system.
He said the project will ensure:
