Coal India Appoints Mukesh Choudhary as Director (Human Resources) effective July 28, 2026

Coal India Director (Marketing) Mukesh Choudhary will hold the additional charge of Director (Human Resource) for three months or until a regular incumbent is appointed, whichever is earlier.

New Delhi: Coal India Limited (CIL) has announced a key board-level leadership change, with Mr. Mukesh Choudhary, currently serving as Director (Marketing), entrusted with the additional charge of Director (Human Resource). The appointment is effective from 28 July 2026.

The additional responsibility has been approved by the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, for an initial period of three months or until a regular incumbent is appointed, or until further orders, whichever is earliest.

Mukesh Choudhary Takes Additional Charge of Director (Human Resource)

Mr. Mukesh Choudhary, who currently serves as Director (Marketing) at Coal India Limited, will now also oversee the company’s Human Resource function.

The additional charge takes effect from 28 July 2026. Choudhary will continue to perform his existing responsibilities as Director (Marketing) while handling the additional duties of Director (Human Resource).

The Ministry of Coal approved the arrangement through a letter dated 24 July 2026. The temporary appointment is intended to ensure continuity in the company’s Human Resource function until a regular incumbent is appointed.

Additional Charge for Three Months or Until Further Orders

The additional charge entrusted to Mukesh Choudhary is for an initial period of three months. However, the arrangement may end earlier if a regular Director (Human Resource) is appointed or if further orders are issued.

The additional charge will therefore continue until three months are completed, a regular incumbent is appointed, or further orders are issued, whichever is earliest.

This temporary leadership arrangement will help ensure the smooth functioning of Coal India’s Human Resource operations during the interim period.

Professional Background of Mukesh Choudhary

Mukesh Choudhary has extensive experience in the coal and mining sector and has held important positions across government-owned coal and energy companies.

He is a Mechanical Engineering (Honours) graduate from Engineering College, Kota. He also holds a Master of Financial Analysis (MFA) degree and an MBA.

His combination of technical, financial and management qualifications, along with his extensive experience in the coal sector, gives him significant exposure to the operations and administration of government-owned enterprises.

Experience with Government-Owned Coal Companies

During his professional career, Mukesh Choudhary has served on the boards of several government-owned coal and energy companies.

His previous board-level experience includes:

  • Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL)
  • South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL)
  • Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL)
  • Western Coalfields Limited (WCL)
  • Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL)
  • National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC)
  • Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL)

His experience across these organisations has given him broad exposure to the coal and energy sectors and to the management of government-owned enterprises.
