Ahmedabad: Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) and GAIL (India) Limited have entered into a strategic 15-year agreement to establish a state-of-the-art Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) dispensing station at ICD Khodiyar, Ahmedabad, marking a major step towards promoting sustainable and cleaner fuel solutions in India’s heavy-duty logistics sector.

The partnership aims to strengthen green transportation infrastructure by enabling LNG-powered commercial vehicles and reducing the carbon footprint of freight movement across key logistics corridors.

CONCOR-GAIL Agreement to Develop LNG Infrastructure at ICD Khodiyar

The agreement was signed on July 8, 2026, at the GAIL office in New Delhi.

The pact was signed by:

  • Mani Bhushan Singh, Group General Manager (Projects & Services), CONCOR.
  • Hitendra Kumar Garg, Executive Director (Marketing), GAIL.

Senior officials from both public sector enterprises were present during the signing ceremony.

The LNG dispensing facility will be developed at CONCOR’s Inland Container Depot (ICD), Khodiyar, Ahmedabad, a strategic logistics location supporting freight movement.

Key Details of the 15-Year Strategic Partnership

Under the agreement, both organisations will play defined roles in developing and operating the LNG facility.

Project Highlights:

  • Project Location: ICD Khodiyar, Ahmedabad.
  • Agreement Duration: 15 years.
  • GAIL’s Responsibility: Investment in LNG infrastructure development and exclusive operational management of the station.
  • CONCOR’s Contribution: Providing around 3,000 square metres of land along with required utility connectivity.
  • Initial Fleet Commitment: Deployment of 15 LNG-powered commercial vehicles by CONCOR in the first year.

The long-term agreement is designed to ensure commercial sustainability and encourage wider adoption of LNG-based transportation.

LNG Station to Operate 24/7 for Seamless Logistics

The upcoming LNG dispensing station will operate round the clock to support uninterrupted freight operations.

Major features of the facility include:

  • 24×7 LNG availability for commercial vehicles.
  • Support for CONCOR’s dedicated logistics fleet.
  • Open access for other heavy commercial vehicles in the region.

The facility will help address the growing demand for cleaner fuel infrastructure in India’s logistics sector.

Boost to Green Transportation Along Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor

The LNG project at ICD Khodiyar is expected to play an important role in promoting sustainable freight movement, especially along the high-demand Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor.

The initiative will help:

  • Reduce emissions from heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Improve fuel efficiency for logistics operators.
  • Promote cleaner alternatives to conventional fuels.
  • Strengthen India’s green logistics ecosystem.

By integrating LNG infrastructure into a major multimodal logistics hub, the partnership aims to accelerate the shift towards environmentally responsible transportation.

CONCOR’s LNG Fleet Commitment Ensures Project Viability

To support the commercial success of the LNG station, CONCOR has committed to deploying 15 LNG-powered commercial vehicles from the first year of the agreement.

This dedicated fleet will create initial demand for LNG fuel and support the economic feasibility of the project from the beginning.

The station will also provide LNG access to other commercial transport operators, expanding the use of cleaner fuel in the Ahmedabad region.

Supporting India’s Cleaner Logistics Future

The CONCOR-GAIL partnership aligns with India’s efforts to develop sustainable infrastructure and reduce emissions in the transport sector.

The project represents a collaboration between two major public sector enterprises to build green fuel infrastructure and encourage cleaner mobility solutions for heavy commercial vehicles.
