The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) has developed several radiopharmaceutical products to ensure the uninterrupted supply of radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals for cancer care. The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) continues research to develop new, cost-effective radiopharmaceuticals. These products, available through the Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BRIT), support cancer treatment across India.
The National Cancer Grid (NCG), established with DAE support, has received ₹177.05 crores for the next five years to enhance cancer care. NCG has 362 member organizations, adding 70 new cancer centers in the past two years, treating 800,000 new cancer cases annually. Key initiatives include standardized cancer care guidelines, cost-effective treatments, digital oncology advancements, and extensive training for healthcare professionals.
Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBCH&RC), Punjab, operates two centers in Sangrur and New Chandigarh, providing comprehensive oncology services. Equipped with advanced diagnostic tools like PET scanners and LINAC radiation therapy, the hospital ensures precise cancer treatment. In 2024, it registered 18,000 new cancer patients, performed 6,000 surgeries, and administered over 40,000 chemotherapies.
