New Delhi: India’s ₹30,000 crore defence drone deal has attracted strong interest from leading Indian aerospace and defence companies. Around 10 public and private sector firms have submitted bids to build advanced Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE) drones for the Indian Armed Forces. The project is one of the country’s biggest indigenous drone programs and supports the government’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

Details of 30000 Crore Defence Drone Deal

The Ministry of Defence has received nearly 10 bids for the procurement of 87 MALE drones. These drones will be used by the Indian Air Force and other armed forces for surveillance, reconnaissance, intelligence gathering, and precision strike missions.

The bid submission process recently closed, marking an important milestone in one of India’s largest drone acquisition programs.

30000 Crore Defence Drone Deal: Which Companies Are Participating?

Several leading Indian defence manufacturers have entered the competition, including:

  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)
  • Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL)
  • Larsen & Toubro (L&T)
  • Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited
  • AdDefence Systems Limited
  • Raphe mPhibr Pvt Ltd

These companies are expected to compete on technology, indigenous manufacturing capability, and operational performance.

What Are MALE Drones?

MALE stands for Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance drones. These aircraft can:

  • Fly for many hours without landing
  • Monitor large areas from the sky
  • Collect intelligence data
  • Track enemy movements
  • Carry weapons for precision strikes

Because of their long flight endurance, MALE drones are considered critical assets in modern warfare.

Why Is 30000 Crore Defence Drone Deal Important

The drone project is designed to strengthen India’s surveillance and combat capabilities across land and maritime borders. Key objectives include:

  • Increasing indigenous defence manufacturing
  • Reducing dependence on imported military drones
  • Building a domestic UAV ecosystem
  • Creating future export opportunities
  • Enhancing national security preparedness

The Defence Ministry has consistently emphasized greater self-reliance in defence production through large domestic procurement programs.

Advanced Features Expected

According to defence sector reports, the drones are expected to feature:

  • Long-range surveillance systems
  • High-resolution sensors
  • Intelligence gathering equipment
  • Precision strike capabilities
  • Integration with Indian missile systems
  • Secure communication networks

These capabilities will help the armed forces monitor threats and respond more effectively during military operations.

Growing Focus on Indigenous Defence Production

India has significantly increased investment in homegrown defence technology over the last few years. Large programs involving drones, fighter aircraft, missiles, and electronic warfare systems are creating new opportunities for Indian companies.

Industry experts believe the ₹30,000 crore drone project could become a major catalyst for the domestic UAV manufacturing ecosystem.
