New Delhi: India-Armenia defence MoU has become a major step forward in strengthening strategic and defence relations between the two countries. India and Armenia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on defence research, innovation, technology development, and shared production. The agreement aims to expand long-term cooperation and create new opportunities for both nations in the defence sector.

The development comes during the two-day visit of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh to Armenia, where he held high-level meetings with Armenian leaders and defence officials.

What Is The India-Armenia Defence MoU

The new MoU was signed between India and Armenia to promote cooperation in defence research, innovation, and shared production of defence-related technologies and systems. The agreement also aims to strengthen defence industrial cooperation between the two countries.

Meeting With Chief Of General Staff

The Defence Secretary also held talks with Lieutenant General Edvard Asryan, Chief of the General Staff of Armenia. Discussions focused on military cooperation, defence preparedness, and future collaboration opportunities.

Why India-Armenia Defence MoU Is Important

The agreement reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and Armenia.

In recent years, Armenia has emerged as one of the largest buyers of Indian defence equipment. The two countries have expanded cooperation in areas such as artillery systems, air defence systems, rocket launchers, ammunition, and military technology. The new MoU is expected to move the partnership beyond defence purchases and towards joint innovation, research, and manufacturing projects.

Growing Defence Cooperation Between India And Armenia

India and Armenia have significantly strengthened defence ties over the last few years. Armenia has procured several Indian-made defence systems and equipment, making it an important destination for India’s defence exports. The growing partnership supports India’s goal of becoming a major defence manufacturing and exporting nation.

Experts believe that closer defence cooperation can help both countries improve technology sharing, industrial cooperation, and regional security coordination.
