Details of PASSEX Exercise 2026
The Indian Navy said that INS Udaygiri, INS Shakti, and INS Kavaratti of the Eastern Fleet took part in the PASSEX with HTMS Chao Phraya of the Royal Thai Navy. The naval exercise was held after the Indian ships completed their official visit to Sattahip, Thailand.
What Is PASSEX Exercise
PASSEX, or Passage Exercise, is a short naval drill conducted when warships from friendly countries meet at sea. These exercises help navies improve communication, coordination, and operational skills while strengthening mutual trust.
What is the Purpose of the PASSEX Exercise
According to the Indian Navy, the exercise provided an opportunity to improve interoperability between the two navies. It also reaffirmed the shared commitment of India and Thailand to maritime security, freedom of navigation, and regional stability in the Indo-Pacific.
Indian Navy’s Visit to Thailand
The three Indian naval ships arrived at Sattahip as part of their operational deployment to Southeast Asia. During the visit, both navies held professional exchanges, cross-deck visits, sports activities, and other interactions to strengthen naval cooperation and friendship.
Why This Exercise Matters
India and Thailand share a long-standing maritime partnership. Regular naval engagements such as PASSEX improve defence cooperation, increase readiness for maritime challenges, and support a safe and secure Indo-Pacific region under India’s Act East Policy and broader regional engagement.
