The estimated contract value is between $700 million and $800 million. If completed, this would become a major defence export agreement for India’s growing missile industry.
The possible purchase follows the earlier $375 million agreement signed in January 2022. Under that contract, India agreed to supply three shore-based BrahMos missile batteries to the Philippines.
Philippine Defence Secretary Confirms Interest In More BrahMos Missiles
Philippine Defence Secretary Gilberto Teodoro discussed the country’s plans during the 3rd Delhi Defence Dialogue in November 2026.
Speaking through a video conference, Teodoro said the Philippines wants to increase the number of BrahMos units in its military inventory.
He also confirmed that Manila had submitted a specific wish list to Indian authorities. The aim is to customise the missile systems according to the Philippines’ geographical conditions and military requirements.
Philippine officials have also highlighted India’s importance as a trusted defence partner.
Why Does The Philippines Want More BrahMos Missiles
The Philippines is strengthening its military capabilities because of growing tensions with China in the South China Sea.
Both countries have competing territorial claims in the region. Repeated maritime confrontations have increased concerns about the security of Philippine coastal areas and important sea routes.
The BrahMos missile system could help the Philippines improve its coastal defence and anti-ship capabilities.
Its ability to strike naval targets at supersonic speeds makes it an important weapon for protecting coastal areas and strategic islands.
BrahMos Missile: Key Features And Capabilities
The BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya.
It is designed to operate from different platforms, including land-based launchers, warships, submarines and aircraft. Some important features of the BrahMos missile include:
- High Speed: The missile can travel at approximately Mach 2.8.
- Multiple Platforms: It can be launched from land, sea and air platforms.
- Anti-Ship Capability: It can target enemy naval vessels.
- Advanced Technology: It uses advanced guidance and navigation systems.
- Coastal Defence: Its land-based version can help protect important coastal areas.
These capabilities make BrahMos an important part of India’s defence technology and export strategy.
Previous $375 Million BrahMos Deal With The Philippines
India and the Philippines signed their first BrahMos missile agreement in January 2022.
The $375 million contract covered three shore-based anti-ship missile batteries for the Philippine Marine Corps. The first delivery was completed in April 2024, while the second battery was delivered in April 2025.
The remaining deliveries under the original agreement are expected to be completed as part of the existing programme. The successful progress of this agreement has helped strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries.
