New Delhi: The US-India defence and civil nuclear cooperation is growing stronger, according to senior US officials. The United States says it is expanding collaboration with India in defence, civil nuclear energy, trusted artificial intelligence (AI), and other emerging technologies to strengthen economic growth and supply chains.

Details of US-India Defence And Civil Nuclear Cooperation

US Assistant Secretary of State S. Paul Kapur made the remarks during a roundtable discussion on India at the Hoover Institution. The event was attended by former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former US Ambassador to India David C. Mulford.

According to Kapur, the current US administration believes stronger engagement with India is creating jobs in the United States while making supply chains more secure for both countries and the wider Indo-Pacific region. He shared these remarks through an official post by the US Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs on X.

Defence And Civil Nuclear Cooperation To Grow Further

Kapur said the United States is expanding cooperation with India in:

  • Defence partnership
  • Civil nuclear energy
  • Trusted Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Emerging technologies
  • Critical supply chains

He added that these areas will support long-term economic growth and improve strategic cooperation between the two countries.

India-US Defence Partnership Continues To Deepen

Last year, India and the United States signed a new defence cooperation framework designed to improve coordination across land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace.

The agreement aims to increase interoperability between the armed forces of both nations and strengthen long-term security cooperation.

Major US Defence Equipment Already In Indian Service

Since 2002, India has purchased several major defence platforms from the United States, including:

  • Apache attack helicopters
  • Chinook heavy-lift helicopters
  • C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft
  • C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft
  • P-8I maritime patrol aircraft
  • M777 ultra-light howitzers

These purchases have made the US one of India’s key defence partners.

US-India Defence And Civil Nuclear Cooperation: Civil Nuclear Cooperation Gains Fresh Momentum

American nuclear companies are also exploring new opportunities in India’s civil nuclear sector. Earlier this year, a delegation of senior US nuclear industry executives visited India to discuss possible cooperation with Indian private companies. The visit followed recent reforms to India’s nuclear liability framework that are expected to make future cooperation easier.
