Delhi: In a major relief for thousands of families living in slums, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Delhi Government are working together on a housing initiative that will provide over 6,476 permanent flats across various parts of the city. The project focuses on repairing, renovating, and improving basic amenities in residential flats to make them livable for beneficiaries.

Focus Areas: Sultanpuri, Dwarka, Savda Ghevra, Bhalswa, Bakkarwala, and Kanjhawala

The initiative targets key areas including Sultanpuri, Dwarka, Savda Ghevra, Bhalswa, Bakkarwala, and Kanjhawala, where flats are being renovated, cleaned, and strengthened to ensure they are ready for occupancy. Officials said thousands of families will be shifted to these colonies in the coming months, providing permanent housing for slum residents.

₹27.50 Crore Approved for 2,500 Flats in Savda Ghevra

The Delhi Government has approved ₹27.50 crore for the repair of approximately 2,500 vacant flats in Savda Ghevra. Renovation work has already begun, focusing on making the flats livable and improving essential infrastructure.

In addition, under the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), efforts are underway to enhance basic facilities in EWS (Economically Weaker Section) residential colonies.

Renovation and Allocation in Sultanpuri, Dwarka, and Bhalswa

Repair and renovation projects for flats in Sultanpuri, Dwarka, and Bhalswa have also received approval. Once completed, these flats will be allocated to eligible families. The government aims to make these residential projects habitable as quickly as possible to benefit the maximum number of needy families.

From Slums to Permanent Homes: Improving Quality of Life

The government stated that the initiative aims to provide safe, dignified, and permanent housing for slum dwellers. Access to permanent homes will not only improve living standards but also ensure better civic amenities for residents.

Amenities Planned in the Renovated Flat Colonies

According to the DDA, the renovated colonies will include essential facilities such as:

  • Dispensaries or hospitals
  • Local shopping centers and service markets
  • Milk booths
  • Auto-taxi stands

These amenities are designed to ensure residents can meet daily needs without traveling long distances.

Existing Nearby Facilities

Most colonies already have bus stops, community centers, post offices, schools, and anganwadi centers within 1–1.5 km. Additionally, metro stations, police stations, and health and education facilities are within a 3 km radius, providing easy access to the city’s key services.

Improved Sewage and Urban Environment

Under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), sewage systems in these colonies have been upgraded to ensure a clean and organized urban environment for families moving into the newly renovated flats.
