New Delhi: The Delhi government has launched a major education infrastructure reform initiative titled ‘Mission Kayakalp’, aimed at transforming government schools into modern, safe, and student-friendly campuses across the capital. The initiative has been announced under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The programme focuses on upgrading school infrastructure, improving learning environments, and ensuring that students receive high-quality education in well-equipped and inspiring surroundings.
Schools to Be Transformed into Modern and Safe Learning Spaces
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that government schools will no longer be limited to traditional classrooms but will be developed into modern campuses with improved facilities.
Under Mission Kayakalp, schools are being upgraded to provide:
- Safe and structurally repaired buildings
- Modern science laboratories
- Clean drinking water facilities
- Improved sanitation and renovated toilets
- Green and eco-friendly campuses
The government emphasized that the goal is to make schools clean, safe, modern, and inspiring for students.

The initiative includes large-scale renovation and modernization work across multiple districts of Delhi. Key improvements include:
- Repair and renovation of dilapidated school buildings
- Painting and structural strengthening of classrooms
- Upgradation of science laboratories
- Installation of RO plants and water coolers
- Development of green school campuses
- Special facilities for children with special needs
Officials stated that the focus is not just on repairs but on complete transformation of school infrastructure.

The Chief Minister highlighted that Mission Kayakalp is being implemented with active collaboration from multiple stakeholders, including:
- District administrations
- Education department
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives

She said public participation is playing a key role in accelerating the pace of school development across Delhi.

- Renovation of sensory parks for special children
- Installation of RO plants and water coolers
- Development of modern physics laboratories
Mehrauli and Qutub Areas
- Repair of toilets, roofs, and damaged plaster
- Building repainting and structural maintenance
- Installation of water coolers
- Tree plantation drives
West Delhi (Mohan Garden & Janakpuri)
- Roof repair and waterproofing
- Sewer line improvement
- Electrical upgrades
- Rainwater harvesting systems
- Enhanced drinking water facilities
Gokalpur and Shahdara
- Renovation of toilets and classrooms
- Painting and structural repairs
- Installation of water coolers
- Library improvements

Government’s Vision for Future School Development
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government will continue strengthening school infrastructure to ensure long-term improvements in education quality. She added that visible changes are already being seen in several schools, and the momentum will be sustained.
