New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a series of changes involving senior officers serving on central deputation, including an additional charge, extensions of deputation tenure and premature repatriation to the parent cadre.
The decisions were conveyed through separate orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Friday, September 25, 2026.
The orders cover officers from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS), Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), Indian Information Service (IInfoS) and Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS).
IAS Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh Gets Additional Charge of EIC Director
Karnataka-cadre IAS officer Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, IAS (KN:2008), currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce, has been given additional charge of Director (Inspection & Quality Control), Export Inspection Council of India (EIC).
The ACC approved the proposal of the Department of Commerce to entrust Ghosh with the additional responsibility for six months from the date he assumes charge.
The additional charge will continue for six months, or until a regular appointment is made to the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Saurabh Singh Gets Two-Year Deputation Extension
Saurabh Singh, IA&AS (2013), serving as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, has received a two-year extension of his central deputation tenure.
The ACC has approved the proposal of the Department of Economic Affairs to extend his tenure for two years beyond October 20, 2026, up to October 20, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Singh was initially appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs for a tenure up to February 29, 2024, corresponding to the period for which the G-20 Secretariat was functional. He assumed charge on October 20, 2022.
Subsequently, with effect from March 1, 2024, he was appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs up to October 20, 2026.
With the latest approval, Singh will now continue in the department until October 20, 2028, subject to the applicable conditions.
Smita Srivastava Gets One-Year Extension in Higher Education
Smita Srivastava, IRSEE (1997), has been granted a one-year extension of her central deputation as Joint Secretary in the Department of Higher Education.
The ACC has approved the proposal of the Department of Higher Education to extend her tenure for one year beyond July 29, 2026, up to July 29, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The extension will continue the upgradation of the post held by her to the level of Joint Secretary for the third year.
Srivastava has been serving in the Department of Higher Education since July 29, 2018, when she joined the department as Director for an initial five-year tenure.
Her deputation was subsequently extended by two years in June 2023, taking it up to July 29, 2025.
She was empanelled for Joint Secretary-level posts in April 2025 and was subsequently elevated as Joint Secretary in the Department of Higher Education on May 29, 2025.
In October 2025, her deputation was extended by another year up to July 29, 2026. The latest approval will now allow her to continue in the department until July 29, 2027.
IInfoS Officer Keerti Tiwari Prematurely Repatriated
Indian Information Service officer Keerti Tiwari, IInfoS (2008), currently serving as Director in NITI Aayog, has been prematurely repatriated to her parent cadre.
The competent authority approved the proposal of NITI Aayog for her premature repatriation so that she can avail the benefit of promotion in her cadre.
Tiwari has been serving as Director in NITI Aayog since January 2023. She was appointed to the post for a five-year tenure, which was scheduled to run until January 2028.
However, she will now return to her parent cadre before completion of the approved tenure to avail the benefit of promotion.
Kumar Ram Krishna Gets Two-Year Extension in Cooperation Ministry
Kumar Ram Krishna, IOFS (2010), has been granted a two-year extension of his central deputation as Director in the Ministry of Cooperation.
The ACC approved the proposal of the Ministry of Cooperation to extend his tenure for two years beyond January 17, 2027, up to January 17, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
He will therefore continue as Director in the Ministry of Cooperation under the extended deputation arrangement until January 17, 2029, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.
Five Officers, Multiple Central Government Assignments
The latest DoPT orders cover five officers and involve different types of administrative changes.
Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh has received an additional charge alongside his existing assignment, while Saurabh Singh, Smita Srivastava and Kumar Ram Krishna have received extensions of their respective central deputation tenures.
Keerti Tiwari, meanwhile, has been prematurely repatriated to her parent cadre to avail the benefit of promotion.
Together, the orders reflect a series of changes in senior and mid-level positions across the Department of Commerce, Department of Economic Affairs, Department of Higher Education, NITI Aayog and Ministry of Cooperation.
