New Delhi: GAIL (India) Limited has signed contract agreements with TUSCO Limited for the development of a 600 MW solar power project at the Solar Park in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The project also includes a 550 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to ensure stable and reliable renewable energy supply.
Key Agreements Signed Between GAIL and TUSCO
The agreements were signed by:
- Parivesh Chugh, Executive Director (SD & Renewables), GAIL
- Anil Tyagi, CEO, TUSCO Limited
The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from both organizations, including representatives from THDC India Limited.
Large-Scale Renewable Energy Project with Battery Storage
The upcoming project will integrate a 600 MW solar power capacity with advanced energy storage infrastructure.
Key features include:
- 550 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
- Improved grid stability and energy reliability
- Efficient integration of renewable power into the system
The combination of solar and storage is expected to enhance consistent power supply even during peak demand or low sunlight conditions.
Power Supply for GAIL’s Industrial Operations
The solar project will primarily support GAIL’s captive energy requirements, including:
- Petrochemical plant at Pata in Auraiya district
- Electrification of gas-based equipment
- Upcoming Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants in Uttar Pradesh
This initiative will help reduce dependency on conventional energy sources and support cleaner industrial operations.
Strengthening Clean Energy Transition Strategy
Speaking on the occasion, GAIL Director (Business Development) R.K. Singhal stated that the project reflects the company’s commitment to:
- Low-carbon energy transition
- Expansion of renewable energy portfolio
- Strengthening operations in Uttar Pradesh
He added that the initiative aligns with GAIL’s broader strategy to promote sustainable and clean energy solutions in India.
